WORK-FAMILY BALANCE INTERVENTION

Managing work and family responsibilities is often difficult and affects the health and well-being of employees, their families, and the workplace.

We developed a supervisory training intervention consisting of (1) computer-based training, (2) face-to-face training, and (3) behavioral self-monitoring to increase transfer of training (described in more detail below). This intervention was implemented in 6 randomly chosen grocery stores and compared to 6 control grocery stores serving as controls). Supervisors rated the training as very useful. Learning was seen in knowledge increases from pretest (74%) to posttest (92%). Supervisor Behaviors self-monitored on data cards showed evidence of some supervisors exceeding their goals of interacting with their employees and treating them differently. Results were assessed in workers in the intervention stores 6 months after the intervention concluded; they self-reported higher levels of physical health than workers in the control stores, after controlling for baseline physical health.

The basis for the work-family balance intervention is described in a research article and a powerpoint about work family balance, and you can license the training and tailor it for your organization.  Click to download or purchase entire package [$705] or individually:

WORK RESTRUCTURING + WORK-FAMILY BALANCE INTERVENTION

A work culture that allows employees a measure of control over their work schedule so they can effectively balance their family and work demands produces a healthy productive and loyal workforce.  Scientists formed a network of universities to develop an intervention that successfully taught US health care and information technology companies how to create a work culture that maximizes control of work schedules (within the constraints of work requirements) and enables employees to balance their work and family demands.

Companies can implement the programs we have developed.  Three options are available for companies to implement this program by using program descriptions supported by user manuals (no cost), program descriptions supported by user manuals and technology programs (intermediate cost), or program descriptions supported by user manuals, technology programs, and program-accredited consultants.
